Home in Steinau
Right from the outset, Steinau an der Straße has always been PACO’s no. 1 location. And for good reason. To begin with, there is the West-side industrial estate that has served as home to PACO Paul GmbH & Co. KG for over 50 years. Then there is the close proximity to the economically important Rhein-Main metropolitan region.
With Frankurt airport only a 45 minute drive away. And not to forget the abundence of picturesque scenery on the doorstep: the Kinzig valley as well as the Spessart uplands and Vogelsberg mountains are within easy hiking distance. Finally, there is Steinau an der Straße itself – one of the most beautiful historic towns in the whole of the state of Hesse.
Whereas in some places, culture is purely something for the onlooker, in Steinau it is something that you can actively live and experience. The castle and palace, half-timbered houses, renaissance architecture, the historic church, Amtshaus and town hall where Philipp Wilhelm Grimm worked as a clerk as the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm were still children.
Which is why the town is home to the Brothers Grimm House, Brothers Grimm School, fairytale fountain in the market square, the Steinau fairytale film festival and the puppet threatre festival. All-in-all this is an extremely pleasant environment in which to live.
Rounded-off by a broad selection of attractive shops. And for the children there are daycare facilities, kindergartens and schools. Social interaction is provided by more than 100 clubs catering for all kinds of interests.
And the inhibitants of Steinau also know how to celebrate – during the carnival season, the traditional dance into May, the trout festival in October and with the particularly special charm of the Advent and Christmas period.
The original reason for Steinau an der Straße being built where it is and developing as it has are its excellent transportation links: its position on the Via Regia, the old Roman trading route that led from Frankfurt on Main through Fulda to Leipzig meant that the town grew to become an economically successful trading and hostelry location in its own right. Today Steinau is not only on this old route, but is also optimally linked to the modern autobahn network though its position directly on the autobahn A 66. In addition, Steinau has a regional railway station that links it into the Rhein-Main metropolitan railway system as well to a stop on the main north south high speed rail line in nearby Fulda.
