Screen Printing

Leading the Way for Innovations - With Its Own World Records

With its screen printing cloths, PACO is the holder of an absolute world record: the PACO ED 18/45 cloth with a “thickness“ of 22 µ and a tolerance of +/- 1 µ along a length of 1.22 m is the thinnest screen printing cloth to ever be mass produced

A further world record is held by the calendered PACO 500 mesh cloth made of 0.019 mm thin stainless steel cloth for the printing of extremely fine linen: 40,000 mesh openings per cm² as well as a mesh size of 0.032 in a cloth thickness of 44 - 46 µ. With a warp beam length of 900 m and a width of 1.02 m, this means 10.2 billion exactly defined mesh openings that are formed by approx.

36 billionsexactly defined mesh openings that are formed by approx. 36,000 km of wire. By combining highly specialised individual qualities with a broad range of products, PACO has become a precursor for new technologies that can be implemented through the use of increasingly precise screen printing techniques

Of course, these developments also benefit traditional screen printing applications – through assured printing quality, long screen lifetimes and an attractive relationship between price and performance.

Circuit Printing

Without high precision screen printing, the rapid advances in printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic circuits would be completely unimaginable. Higher and higher packing densities and multilayer technology demand absolute perfection from the screen printing templates. The cloth of choice for circuit printing, the PACO-SD, distinguishes itself through a very low thickness tolerance of only +/- 1,5 µ. PACO stainless steel precision cloths are, among other things, used for the production of single-sided, double-sided and through-hole plated PCBs, multilayer circuits, flexible circuits, thick film circuits as well as rigid/flexible circuits.

SMD-Technology

SMD – surface mounted devices – have the advantage that they don’t need lead wires or pins to connect them to the printed circuit board (PCB) or to make them work. The components are effectively only attached by a solder paste that is applied to predetermined solder pads on the board – a technique that significantly simplifies PCB production.

Essential for effective soldering and attachment is the precise application of the solder paste using a screen printing process.

PACO screen printing cloths are the first choice for SMD technology. Their inherent precision means that they will always be able to match the increasing demands of higher packing densities and faster processing speeds.

Films and Displays

Membrane keyboards and LED displays can be found in countless settings in the home and workplace. These start with the remote control for the TV in the living room and range through to the operating panel of the machine at work. In between are applications in the car or aircraft as well as toys or sport equipment. In all cases screen printing was an essential part of the production process – often with highly specialised PACO screen printing cloths. This means that there is virtually no area in which you don’t come into contact with PACO.

Examples of important applications for PACO screen printing cloths for films and displays are: Flat panel displays: LCD, OLED, PDP, EL, touch panels

Component packaging: LTCC, MLCC, HIC, TFCC/TFCR

PCB new technology: ER/EC

High transparent and conductive films: plugging via membrane switch

Decorative Printing

China plates with elegant patterns, beer glasses that have been opulently ornamented with gold, coffee mugs with striking company logos – a familiar sight for all of us. But who knows that high quality screen printing is behind all of these things?

PACO has gained more than 50 years experience in the production of precision metal cloths for screen printing. Regardless of whether it’s accurate register 24 colour printing, electrically heated printing screens for thermoplastic inks or printing with precious metals such as gold, platinum or cobalt – PACO SD and ED stainless steel meshes are always the material of choice.

Areas of application for PACO screen printing cloths for decorative printing include: glass printing, porcelain printing, advertising posters, labels, product decor, merchandising, decorations, fine art etc.

High Resolution Rotary Screen Printing

For rotary screen printing, PACO stainless and nickel plated steel mesh is formed into a hollow cylinder. The ink feed and squeegee are arranged on the inside and the material to be printed is continuously guided past on the outside – similar to offset printing.

This relatively new printing process places extremely high demands on the screen printing cloth: although the cloth is rolled to form a cylinder, the cloth mesh has to remain perfectly square at all times. Precisely this characteristic is inherent to PACO SD-AM cloths. These feature low-elongation and a high tensile strength in conjunction with high mesh stability. Cylinders made of PACO SD-AM cloths for rotary screen printing are primarily chosen for the printing of decorative labels that have a high colour density and areas of intense colours – with large runs at high production speeds.
